Inshō — Privacy Policy

What Inshō does
Inshō is a personal knowledge capture and retrieval system. The browser extension reads the text content of web pages you browse and sends it to a local application running on your computer. That application processes, indexes, and stores the content so you can search and retrieve it later.
What data we collect
Page content. When you browse the web with the extension active, Inshō extracts the main text content of each page (article body, not ads or navigation chrome). This includes the page title, URL, author, and publication date when available.
Attention signals. Inshō records how you engage with each page: time spent, scroll depth, and active interaction time. These signals help the system prioritize content you actually read over pages you glanced at briefly.
No personal accounts. Inshō does not require you to create an account, sign in, or provide any personal information such as your name, email, or payment details to use the product.
No browsing history beyond captured content. Inshō does not maintain a record of every site you visit. It captures page content for indexing — it does not log URLs you visited but chose not to capture.
Where your data is stored
On your computer, nowhere else. Your data is stored and processed on your computer. Multi-device sync works over your local network, encrypted. No internet. No cloud.
What we do not do
- Your data never travels over the internet. Not to Inshō's servers, not to third parties, not to any external service.
- Your data is accessible only to the application running on your computer. We as a company never see it and have no means to.
- We do not sell or share your data. Your captured content is never shared with third parties, advertisers, or data brokers.
- We do not use your data to train models. Your content is never used to train, fine-tune, or improve any language model or machine learning system.
- We do not track you across sites. Inshō does not use cookies, fingerprinting, or any cross-site tracking mechanism. The extension reads page content — it does not track your identity or behavior across the web.
- We do not collect analytics or telemetry. The extension and local application do not phone home, send crash reports, or transmit usage statistics.
Permissions
The browser extension requests access to all URLs because its core function is to capture content from any page you browse. This permission is used solely to read page content for your personal knowledge base. The extension does not modify pages, inject content, or interact with web services on your behalf.
Data retention and deletion
All data is stored locally on your machine. You can delete any or all captured content at any time through the application. Uninstalling the extension stops all future capture. Removing the local application and its data directory permanently deletes everything.
Changes to this policy
If we make material changes to this policy, we will update the "last updated" date above and notify users through the extension or application.
